‘Teen Mom’ Star Ryan Edwards Says Recent Drug Overdose Was Intentional
'I think my biggest problem was myself not thinking that I had a problem,' the MTV star told Dr. Drew Pinsky on the reunion show
Ryan Edwards is opening up about his addiction as he marks five months of sobriety.
During Wednesday's episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, the MTV reality star addressed reports that he was rushed to the hospital in April after overdosing.
"The last time I used and overdosed, that was on purpose," he told Dr. Drew Pinksy. "I don't think anybody [knew that]. I asked that lady why she saved me."
When asked what led to his actions, Ryan said it was "probably depression, the addiction and the drama of everything going on" with his legal cases and ongoing divorce from Mackenzie Edwards.
After spending 28 days in rehab, Ryan said he is now staying in a halfway house and goes to AA and NA meetings.
During the reunion show, Ryan added that he hopes to eventually be done with treatment for good. "I would hope to think so," he said. "I don't want to do it anymore. I think my biggest problem was myself not thinking that I had a problem. I lied to myself."

"When I went to treatment [before], I knew as soon as I got home I was gonna do what I was gonna do," he continued. "I have used in jail, but not this go around. That's big, it takes a lot of work."
Fans first met Ryan on the first season of 16 and Pregnant in 2009 when his then-girlfriend Maci Bookout was pregnant and expecting their first child.
Since then, MTV cameras have continued to follow the former couple's journey of co-parenting their son Bentley.
"Maci and I get along great right now," Ryan said. "She checked on me every day. She went to court and everything."
And while Bookout went on to marry Taylor McKinney in 2006, Ryan's family has expressed gratitude to everyone involved for being supportive.
"I appreciate Taylor and all that he's done for Bentley," Ryan's mom Jen Edwards said on the reunion show. "I appreciate him being there when Ryan couldn't. I hope that Taylor can navigate through all of this with Maci and Ryan co-parenting. I know it's hard for Taylor and I understand."
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter is now streaming on Paramount+.
