Singer SZA Finally Reacts to 9 Grammy Nominations: ‘I Wish My Granny Was Here’

Singer-songwriter SZA received nine Grammy Awards nominations on Friday, the most of any artist in the upcoming 2024 ceremony, and early Monday morning, she finally spoke publicly about the achievement.

The "Snooze" singer headlined Tyler, the Creator's music festival Camp Flog Gnaw on Sunday, performing hits from her albums CTRL and SOS for an hour and concluded the show swinging above the crowd on a wrecking ball while singing "The Weekend."

After the show, she reflected on an interaction with a fan on social media when another fan asked why she had not yet said anything about her Grammy noms.

"Cause I'm overwhelmed by it and it gives me alotta anxiety to think of words," SZA replied on X (formerly Twitter). "But I'm very grateful and very shook and I wish my granny was here to come w me again."

SZA was nominated for her first Grammy in 2018, and her grandmother reportedly flew on a plane for the first time to watch her perform at the ceremony. Norma Rowe died June 19, 2019, at 90 years old.

In another post, SZA shared a photo of herself with her mother and grandmother, captioning it, "Bittersweet thoughts."

SOS, SZA's latest album featuring the singles "Kill Bill," "Nobody Gets Me," and "I Hate U," earned her Grammy nominations for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Melodic Rap Performance, Best R&B Performance, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Song and Best Progressive R&B Album.

The Grammys will be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles for the 21st time in the past 25 years. It will run from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. PT. The show will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+.
