Stephen Sanchez Shares How He Kept His Performance for Friend Sofia Richie ‘A Secret’ at Her Wedding to Elliot Grainge: ‘I Was Definitely Nervous’ (Exclusive)
The 'Until I Found You' singer's highly anticipated debut album, 'Angel Face,' drops Sept. 22
Nashville-based singer-songwriter Stephen Sanchez is still gushing over performing at the wedding of Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge.
Sanchez, who went viral on TikTok with his song "Until I Found You," which has generated billions of streams, was thrilled to perform for his friend.
Sanchez's unique, retro sound — "Lou Rawls taught me to sing, Elvis taught me to move, and Frank Sinatra taught me what to sing about. And I think it's safe to say that Elvis was one of the greatest artists of his generation and is still such a force in this modern day" — was a highlight at the nuptials, matching the overall romantic vibe of the event.
"Lucian Grainge is the godfather of the music industry, and his son Elliot, was marrying Sofia," Sanchez shared with The Messenger, while discussing his debut album, Angel Face, out this Friday. "He asked for a favor because Sofia loves the song, and so we've flown out and we spent time hiding away for the day, keeping it a secret until finally the surprise was revealed."
The two lovebirds were wed in April of this year in the south of France. Sanchez surprised Richie as she walked down the aisle. "She spotted me and burst into tears, and then makeup had to rush in because Vogue magazine was there and they were trying to maintain the makeup that they worked very hard on."
It was only a surprise to Richie, however. For Sanchez, "It was just all exciting. It was so fun. I love weddings just in general. That's a very cool wedding to have been a part of, but they're just normal folks that I love, just like everyone else. And so it was just cool to just hang with them and be able to soundtrack that day for them. That was great."

Sanchez wore a black tuxedo with a bow tie, and sang "Until I Found You," changing the name of "Georgia" in the track to "Sofia."
"I was definitely nervous for sure," he admitted. "I felt like I wanted to do a good job, not because Lionel Richie was there, or there were people of familiar works there. It was just wanting to do good for her wedding."
His single, "Be More," is out now. He told The Messenger that he's loving how a multigenerational audience is enjoying his music,
"It's been really great, genuinely, being able to have folks who are young experiencing this music for the very first time and these sounds for the very first time," he enthused. "And to have the grandparents of those kids remember their life back in the '50s and '60s — it's just so amazing. It's going to hit everybody in such a different way."
"It's going to feel new to some people and fresh," he added. "It's going to feel familiar to some people. It's going to feel like nostalgic and reminiscent of certain things to some people, and I'm very excited to experience the reactions of that."
