Stephen Colbert's The Late Show will be put on hold for one week, as its star recovers from surgery following a ruptured appendix.

The talk show host took to Threads to share the news of the brief pause on Monday.

"Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week. I'm sure you're thinking, 'Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?'" Colbert wrote. "Actually, I'm recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix."

He also thanked his doctors, his wife Evie and his children for their help amid his recovery.

"I'm grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me," Colbert finished. "Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas."

Jennifer Garner and Baz Luhrmann were set to appear in the now-canceled Tuesday episode as guests, with John Scofield sitting in with Louis Cato and the Late Show Band. The show's former band leader John Batiste was set to perform Wednesday, with Patrick Stewart, Barbra Streisand and Kelsey Grammer rounding out the list of canceled guests.

The appendix-related cancellation is the second time Colbert will temporarily go off the air since returning to CBS after the Writers' Guild strike ended in October. Several weeks ago, Colbert canceled shows after testing positive for COVID.
