Who Is ‘House of Villains’ Contestant Shake Chatterjee? What to Remember About the ‘Love Is Blind’ Star

Chatterjee is competing for the title of America's Ultimate Supervillain against icons like Tiffany 'New York' Pollard and Jax Taylor

Shake Chatterjee may not have fallen in love on Love Is Blind, but he's certainly hoping he'll fall into $200k on E!'s House of Villains.

The veterinarian — who was 33 when he searched for love on the hit Netflix dating show in 2022 — will soon be facing off against fellow titans of reality television like Omarosa, Jonny Fairplay and Jax Taylor for the title of "America's Ultimate Supervillain." (Oh, yeah, and that sweet, sweet prize money.) Hosted by Joel McHale, the series follows the contestants as they participate in a series of challenges that tests their physical, mental and emotional strength, all while voting one another out of a shared house.

But, since Chatterjee is relatively new to the game compared to veterans like Tiffany "New York" Pollard (who first hit our screens in 2006's Flavor of Love, and has been making us giggle ever since), what, exactly, did he do to become so infamous? Find out more about the Chicago native below.

He got engaged on 'Love Is Blind' Season 2, but it didn't last

During the speed-dating rounds of Love Is Blind Season 2, Abhishek "Shake" Chatterjee rubbed some of the women the wrong way when he asked questions inquiring about their physical appearance, like if they worked out, their clothing sizes and whether he'd be able to pick them up at a music festival. Nevertheless, he got engaged to fellow contestant Deepti Vempati, and the two jetted off on a luxurious honeymoon.

But quickly, there was trouble in paradise. During the honeymoon, he told castmate Jarrette Jones that he was not "physically attracted" to Vempati, saying it felt like he was dating his "aunt." And once they went home to Chicago, things didn't get any better — Chatterjee told his mom he didn't have an "animalistic" connection with Vempati (which his own mother took offense to), and made the aunt comment once again, this time to castmate Shayne Janson.

During their finale wedding, Vempati stood up for herself and said "I don't" to her fiancé — only for Chatterjee to claim that she would have said yes if he'd agreed first. Subsequently, Chatterjee told cameras he was heading off to party at Nobu.

He's since doubled down on his comments

At the season's reunion, Chatterjee not only didn't apologize for the way he'd treated Vempati, but doubled down on his body-shaming comments. When hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey questioned whether this was the right show for him, Chatterjee claimed that love isn't blind, it's "blurry."

"We all have our physical preferences," he said at the time. "Listen, every woman here is beautiful. I think you're all beautiful. I'm not attracted to all of you. Unfortunately, the only one I'm attracted to is Vanessa."

Chatterjee has since repeated the catchphrase, captioning an August 2022 Instagram post with new girlfriend Emily Wilson, "Love is blurry." It is unclear if they are still a couple, as they haven't posted together since around that time.

He feuds with Vanderpump Rules' Jax Taylor on House of Villains

Apparently, not everyone is happy with Chatterjee on House of Villains, either. In the series trailer, Vanderpump Rules alum Jax Taylor tells him in an explosive fight, "If I see you out in Hollywood, I will gladly go back to jail for you," referencing his 2015 arrest.

Taylor himself told The Messenger he got "triggered" by a "human being" on the cast, and the "old, villainous" side came out.

"In my opinion, I just do not care for this person whatsoever, or what he stands for," he said. "And my outlet was violence, which is the only way I could have dealt with it in that situation. [It was] probably the wrong thing to do..."

House of Villains premieres Oct. 12 at 10/9c on E!
