Rachel McAdams Explains Why She Skipped the ‘Mean Girls’ Reunion Commercial

Back in November, Walmart used the original Mean Girls cast to promote its Black Friday deals. Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried were all featured, but Rachel McAdams was noticeably missing.

We now know why. “I don’t know; I guess I wasn’t that excited about doing a commercial if I’m being totally honest,” she told Variety. “A movie sounded awesome, but I’ve never done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag. Also…I didn’t know that everyone was doing it. I would, of course, always love to be part of a ‘Mean Girls’ reunion and hang with my plastics, but yeah, I found that out later.”

Lizzy Caplan and Jonathan Bennett also did not appear in the two Walmart spots.

McAdams also revealed that she will not reprise her role as Regina George from 2004’s Mean Girls in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical, which is due for release by Paramount Pictures in January. Writer Tina Fey and Tim Meadows will appear, and a possible McAdams cameo was discussed, but didn’t happen.

“Tina and I sort of dabbled with a few ideas, but it was tough to make it all work in the end,” she told the outlet. “I was really down for whatever she wanted to do. I think the direction it went in will be fantastic and I cannot wait to see it.”

Mean Girls turns 20 next year, but its impact is as significant as if it came out just yesterday.
