"I was lucky to be in her orbit," the actress said of the late fashion mogul, who died by suicide in 2018

Rachel Brosnahan is remembering Kate Spade five years after the fashion mogul's sudden death.

On Monday, the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel actress paid tribute to her late aunt in a heartfelt post on Instagram.

"Can't believe it's been five years," Brosnahan wrote. "I've been thinking about Katy a lot lately because 10 years ago, when I was making my Broadway debut, she let me crash in their extra bedroom while I figured out my living situation. She included me in family dinners every night while we were in rehearsals and would keep extra food for me in the fridge for when I came home from tech and previews. She would always ask about the play and came with bells on (and the most fabulous outfit) to our opening night. She told me she sobbed through the bows because she was proud."

"But I'm not alone in that experience," the Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window star added. "That was the magic of Katy. She loved so hard she was often moved to tears, and laughter that moved through her entire body and joy that radiated out her pores. She spread stardust over everyone she came into contact with. I was lucky to be in her orbit."

"It's strange to be in New York without her," Brosnahan concluded. "It's strange to be back on stage without her. But also, she's still here."

Spade died by suicide in 2018. Shortly after her death, Brosnahan starred in a campaign ad for Spade's line, Frances Valentine — which she created with her husband in 2015.

"In the wake of Katy's passing, my family and I were so overwhelmed and encouraged by the love and support we received from those who were touched by Katy's work, many of whom were strangers from around the world," Brosnahan told PEOPLE at the time. "When you lose someone you love, you search for boundless ways to keep their memory alive. This felt like a way to do that through her beautiful creations and an opportunity to share them with all of those who her work meant so much to."
