Oliver Anthony Shares Details of Debut Album After ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ Fame
The rising musician revealed when he will be recording his forthcoming debut album in a new Instagram post
Oliver Anthony is gearing up to put more music out to the world.
The rising musician, who skyrocketed to fame after his "Rich Men North of Richmond" folk ballad went viral in August, shared details about his forthcoming debut album in a new Instagram post Friday.
"Have been in the woods lately writing some songs and petting some dogs. Will be recording my first official album in January," he revealed. "Going to be recording outdoors, much like the RadioWv session videos you've seen popping up on YouTube recently, but with a few other instruments added."
Fans couldn't contain their excitement in the comments section, with one social media user writing, "Your album will be the first one I purchase in over 20 years, it’ll be money well spent. Even my four-year-old daughter loves listening to you, she calls you 'the forest guy with a guitar.'"
Another added, "We’re with you. Keep this train rolling all the way north of Richmond."
Anthony's "Rich Men North of Richmond" was officially released on Aug. 11 and debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Digital Song Sales chart and No. 4 on the Streaming Songs chart, per Billboard.
"The hopelessness and frustration of our times resonate in the response to this song," the Virginia resident told the outlet at the time. "The song itself is not anything special, but the people who have supported it are incredible and deserve to be heard.”

Anthony spoke out against high-profile conservative politicians championing him and using his song at a Republican national debate that same month, saying in a video posted to YouTube, "I wrote that song about those people."
He added, "It's aggravating seeing people on conservative news trying to identify with me like I'm one of them."
Anthony has also been outspoken about his general political beliefs, previously noting that he doesn't necessarily pick a side when it comes to the Democratic or Republican parties.
"I sit pretty dead center down the aisle on politics and always have," he explained. "I remember as a kid the conservatives wanting war and me not understanding that, and I remember a lot of the controversies when the left took office, and it seems like both sides serve the same master and that master is not someone of any good to the people of this country."
