Nicki Minaj is opening about the last conversation she had with her father before he died.

In a recent interview with Apple Music's Ebro Darden, the rapper revealed the details surrounding her final interaction with her dad, Robert Maraj, before he died in a hit-and-run in February 2021.

"So, right after I had the baby [son, "Papa Bear"] and it was during [the pandemic], and nobody knew what was going on. But that day, as I'm rocking him, the phone rings, and I see it's my father," she said. "I normally would not have picked up, because I don't like to be on the phone with the baby there. I would've called him back. Something said, 'Pick up the phone.'"

"I picked up, he was very happy, and he was like, 'Baby, I could come on Monday?' because he had been waiting to be able to come to Cali to help me," she continued. "I kept on saying, 'Come on out.' He is this amazing, great person, who livens up the whole house," Nicki said of her late father. "I was like, 'Yes, we were going to get help.'"

That same day, Minaj learned of her father's death after he mom called to inform her that he had been involved in an accident and later died from his injuries.

In May 2022, businessman Charles Polevich pleaded guilty in a suburban New York crash that killed the Maraj. Polevich admitted leaving the scene of the February 2021 accident that killed Maraj, who was walking along a road on Long Island, according to USA Today.

According to the outlet, Polevich initially got out of his car and looked at the Maraj before driving off. He didn’t call 911 and covered his car with a tarp in his garage. Polevich pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence by concealing the car.

He was later sentenced to one year in jail.

"I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life," Minaj wrote on her website in 2021. "I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he’s gone. May his soul rest in paradise. He was very loved & will be very missed."
