Nick Lachey Reveals First Date With Vanessa Lachey Was at Hooters: ‘I Swear’
During the 'Ultimatum' Season 2 reunion, the former boybander shared the unexpected spot where he and Vanessa's romance blossomed
After hosting series like Love Is Blind and The Ultimatum, Nick and Vanessa Lachey know better than anyone that love can grow out of unique circumstances — and that same principle might apply to their own romance. During the Ultimatum Season 2 reunion, Nick revealed that his first date with Vanessa took place at quite the unexpected location.
"Little-known fact," he told the contestants in the episode, "Our first date was at Hooters. I swear!"
After Nick made the reveal, cast member Antonio Mattei asked him, "Why did you hold that one back?"
To that, Vanessa quickly answered: "Because this is not about us!"
In response, contestant Kat Shelton joked, "Valentine's at Hooters is a good one."
The topic came up after Lisa Horne called fellow cast member Riah Nelson a "Hooters bitch" — despite previously working at the restaurant chain herself. During a reunion episode segment on their epic throwdown, Horne doubled down on the comment, adding, "I don't regret what I said." (Horne and boyfriend Brian Okoye left the show early after Horne revealed she was pregnant; during the reunion, the couple revealed they'd since welcomed a baby boy.)
Nick and Vanessa Lachey (née Minnillo) first met on the set of MTV's Total Request Live, where Vanessa worked as a host. Nick's band 98 Degrees frequently made appearances; the two began dating in 2006 after his separation from wife Jessica Simpson in 2005. They wed in 2011 and have three children: Camden, 10; Brooklyn, 8; and Phoenix, 7.

The rest of the cast members on The Ultimatum Season 2 appear to be just as happy — all four couples that stayed on the show have remained together after getting engaged. However, Roxanne Kaiser — who got engaged to Mattei after hesitating with the concept of marriage throughout the season — revealed that she isn't wearing her engagement ring, although the two are still fiancés.
The Ultimatum Season 2 finale and reunion are now streaming on Netflix.
