‘Mean Girls’ Movie Musical Is Getting a Theatrical Release

The release was switched over from Paramount+ to theaters and was announced on Mean Girls Day

Oct. 3rd is officially Mean Girls Day, and the production of the upcoming movie musical celebrated, not by wearing pink, but by blessing fans with exciting news about the adaption.

"January 12 is going to be SO FETCH," reads a message on the official Instagram account with a sparkling pink heart emoji. "The new #MeanGirls movie is coming to theatres soon."

The film was originally set to be available for streaming on Paramount+, but it will now get a theatrical release.

It's based on the Tony-nominated musical by Jeff Richmond, Nell Benjamin, and Tina Fey, who also wrote the 2004 movie of the same name. Starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, the original film became an instant classic among millennials.

Fey will reprise her role as Ms. Norbury in the new film and Tim Meadows is set to return as Principal Duvall. Renee Rapp, Auli’i Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey, and Jaquel Spivey round out the central cast alongside Bebe Wood, Avantika Vandanapu, Christopher Briney, Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, and Jon Hamm.

The Mean Girls musical movie is being directed by Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne.
