'Mean Girls' Cast: Where Are They Now? - The Messenger
It's time to break the news. The Messenger's slogan

Happy Mean Girls Day to all who celebrate! Fans of the classic 2004 comedy observe Oct. 3 as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the movie. The film has a short scene where Cady Heron's (Lindsay Lohan) crush Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett) asks her what day it is. You can probably assume her answer. Hence, Mean Girls Day. That's all there is to it! It's the second-most iconic early 2000s movie holiday in-joke, after April 25, Miss Congeniality's "Perfect Date."

To celebrate Mean Girls Day, we're checking in on where the cast of Mean Girls is now (in between watching Mean Girls on TikTok in 23 parts).

Lindsay Lohan

Personal struggles and tabloid attention damaged LiLo's once-promising career, but things are going better for her now. In 2022, she had her first mainstream starring role in many years in the Netflix Christmas romantic comedy Falling for Christmas, and she will return in 2024 with another Netflix rom-com called Irish Wish. She also recently gave birth to her first child, a boy named Luai, with husband Bader Shammas.

Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams, who played Regina George, the meanest girl of them all, broke out in 2004 with the one-two punch of Mean Girls and The Notebook. More recently, she appeared in the films Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret and played a fictionalized version of herself in a memorably absurd guest arc on the comedy series Dave. She'll be making her Broadway debut in 2024 in the play Mary Jane. She has two children with her husband, screenwriter Jamie Linden.

Lacey Chabert

After playing anxious rich girl Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls, Lacey Chabert has carved out a niche as the queen of Hallmark, appearing in over 30 movies on the Hallmark Channel as of 2023, most recently The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango. Next up is her Hallmark Christmas movie for this year, A Merry Scottish Christmas. She has one daughter, Julia, with her husband, investor David Nehdar. She never made fetch happen, though.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried made her film debut in Mean Girls as Karen Smith, Gretchen's sweet but dimwitted best friend. She has gone on to have an acclaimed and far-ranging career, earning an Oscar nomination in 2020 for her performance in Mank and winning an Emmy in 2022 for her deeply committed performance as tech industry fraudster Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout. She has two children with her husband, actor Thomas Sadoski.

Tina Fey

In addition to writing the screenplay for Mean Girls, Tina Fey also played math teacher Sharon Norbury in the film. Mean Girls came out when Fey was head writer and "Weekend Update" co-anchor on Saturday Night Live, and she went on to create numerous TV shows, including 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Most recently, she appeared in the mystery film A Haunting in Venice. She has two children with her husband, composer Jeff Richmond, to whom she's been married since 2001.

Amy Poehler

SNL veteran Amy Poehler played Regina's "cool mom" June in the film. Poehler is perhaps best known for her role as Leslie Knope on the sitcom Parks and Recreation. Lizzy Caplan

Lizzy Caplan played Janis Ian, Cady's sardonic, unpopular friend who used to be best friends with Regina George and whose wig was made from your mom's chest hair. Caplan has gone on to have a varied career, most recently starring in the shows Fleishman Is In Trouble and Fatal Attraction and the horror movie Cobweb. She has one child with her husband, actor Tom Riley.

Since the film, Franzese has appeared in numerous movies and TV shows, most notably the HBO dramedy Looking. He appeared on RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race in 2022, competing as his drag persona Donna Bellissima to raise money for The Trevor Project.

Jonathan Bennett

Mr. Aaron Samuels himself, Jonathan Bennett, hasn't become quite as big a Hallmark star as Lacey Chabert, but he's an important one: in 2022 he starred in the network's first LGBTQ-led Christmas movie, The Holiday Sitter. In 2023, he'll appear in Christmas on Cherry Lane. He also recently surprised a cast of high school students who were putting on a production of Mean Girls: The Musical and did a Q&A with them. He is married to TV personality Jaymes Vaughan.
