Mayim Bialik ‘Hopes’ to Come Back to ‘Jeopardy!’ but Imminent Return ‘Unlikely’: Source (Exclusive)
Ken Jennings is expected to replace Bialik as host of 'Celebrity Jeopardy!' when Season 2 returns this September on ABC
Mayim Bialik will take 'Resolution' for 1,000, please. As the actors' and writers' strikes head into another month, Bialik is remaining loyal to her peers as she steps away from Jeopardy!.
"Mayim is choosing to stand with the actors like she did the writers and won't cross the picket lines," a source exclusively shares with The Messenger. "She hopes to return to Jeopardy! as soon as the strike has been resolved."
In a press release issued Aug. 22, ABC announced that Celebrity Jeopardy! will return for Season 2 on Sept. 27. However, fan-favorite Ken Jennings will be the sole host, as opposed Bialik, per multiple outlets.
"She wasn't fired," the insider explains. "She's choosing to stand with her union, and because of that, she was told it is unlikely she will return for the rest of the year, even if the strike is resolved before then."
The Messenger has reached out to Bialik's rep for comment as well as the game show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, SAG-AFTRA's National Code of Fair Practice for Network Television Broadcasting — aka the Network Code — covers game shows and would allow the Big Bang Theory actress to cross the picket lines without penalty, if she so chose.
However, the publication noted that both the syndicated Jeopardy! and ABC's Celebrity Jeopardy! are written by WGA members.

"Our words are on the screen every night," Jeopardy! writer Michele Loud previously told Variety from the picket lines. "There is no Jeopardy! without writers. Without us, it's just an empty blue screen."
Bialik and Jennings have co-hosted the game show since longtime host Alex Trebek's death in September 2021 (after former executive producer Mike Richards' departure from the role within a week).
Jeopardy! currently airs weeknights in syndication, with Celebrity Jeopardy! returning Sept. 27.
