Mayim Bialik Says a ‘Blossom’ Reboot Is Happening, Though ‘Not as a Sitcom’

The 'Big Bang Theory' alum dished on plans for the cast and producers of 'Blossom' to reunite once the SAG-AFTRA strike ends

Mayim Bialik confirmed that a Blossom reboot is happening — but there's a catch.

"I'm happy to tell you that, yes, it's true. All of the cast and the original creator and producers are on board, and we believe a reboot can and should exist once the strike ends," the Big Bang Theory alum told Vanity Fair in an interview published Monday.

She added, "We're hoping to reboot it not as a sitcom, though. We want to bring back these interesting, deep characters — a child of divorce, a recovering drug addict, an alcoholic — to see them in a whole new way."

The Jeopardy! co-host's description of how she and the rest of the Blossom cast and crew envision the show's reboot is seemingly parallel to the guests and topics of conversation on her Mayim Bialik's Breakdown podcast, in which the neuroscientist breaks down "mental health so you don't have to."

The podcast, which was started by the actress and her partner Jonathan Cohen in 2020, hosts guests who mainly fall into one of two categories: medical professionals and scientists discussing all things mental health or celebrities and Hollywood folk who casually chat about "where they are mental health-wise."

Former guests include the likes of Chelsea Handler, who opened up about repressed grief after her brother Chet's 1984 death, and Ben Stiller, who recently discussed saving his marriage with Christine Taylor on the latest episode of the show Monday.

Blossom first premiered on NBC in July 1990 and ran for five seasons, airing its series finale in May 1995. The beloved sitcom starred Bialik as the titular character, as well as Joey Lawrence, Jenna von Oÿ, Ted Wass, Michael Stoyanov, Barnard Hughes and more.
