Marie Osmond Explains Why She’s Not Leaving Her Kids Money (Exclusive)

'You can't buy self worth,' the actress and singer exclusively tells The Messenger

Don't call Marie Osmond's children "nepo babies." The former Donny & Marie star wants her kids to make their own way in the world, which is why she doesn't plan on leaving them a big inheritance.

"I believe personally that when you tell your children you're going to leave them my six decades of hard work, you just leave them crippled in the sense they never get to figure out what they love, or learn what it is to work hard, or fail and learn how to get yourself back up," she told The Messenger during an exclusive interview about her role on The Bold and the Beautiful and her upcoming Christmas tour. "You can't buy self worth."

Osmond, 64, is a mother to Stephen, 40, Jessica, 36, Rachael, 34, Brandon, 27, Brianna, 25, Matthew, 24, and Abigail, 21. She also had a son, Michael, who died in 2010.

"To me, it's like, 'Don't you want to give something to your child?' Yes, I'm going to give them the ability to figure out who they are and have self worth. That's the greatest gift, I think, parents can give their children," she said. "And that doesn't mean fixing everything for them. I am who I am because of my struggles, not my successes."

"That doesn't mean I don't help my children," she added. "I have to tell you, my kids, I'm so proud of all of them. They are hardworking, passionate, beautiful people that when I leave this life, I know they'll be able to take care of themselves."

While she doesn't want to spoil her children, Osmond's grandchildren are a different story. "It's a horse of a different color," she explained. "That's a non-issue."
