Lil Nas X’s Brother Says the Rapper Helped Him Come Out as Bisexual in New Doc

'He helped me be real with myself,' Lil Nas X's brother said of the 'Old Town Road' singer-rapper, who came out as gay in 2019

Lil Nas X's brother is praising the "Old Town Road" rapper for helping him "be real with myself" and come out as bisexual.

In the musician's new documentary Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero, Tramon Hill shares how Lil Nas helped him come out.

"My brother really opened doors for a lot of people," said Hill in the project, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday. "Yeah, he opened a door for me. What I mean by that, like, I'm not gay, though, you feel me? I'm bisexual. He helped me be real with myself. My brother made me more open to it."

Hill said that he was hesitant to publicly reveal his sexuality out of fear of losing friends; however, Lil Nas X — who came out as gay in 2019 — helped him have a change of heart.

"If you f--- with me, you f--- with me," added Hill. "If you don't, you don't. Bye. Get out of my presence. I don't need you. At the end of the day, people are going to f--- with who they f--- with, so stop trying to chase a friend. A friend is going to always be there."

Reality show competitor Robert Stafford, who was featured on Season 2 of Claim to Fame and is Lil Nas X's half-brother, also says the musician has taught him a lot about acceptance and identity.

"He's opened my eyes so much to the LGBTQ community," Stafford said. "He taught me just be yourself no matter what anybody thinks about you."

Though the two-time Grammy winner helped his brother find confidence in his sexuality, the documentary was briefly postponed after an anonymous bomb threat was called in moments before Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, arrived. The hitmaker was specifically targeted for being a Black queer artist, according to one source.
