‘Legend of Zelda’ Live-Action Movie in Development, Nintendo Announces
'The Legend of Zelda' is entering development with director Wes Ball, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced
After nearly 40 years, Link is finally coming to the big screen in a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced in a news release on Tuesday that the IP is entering development with director Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the Maze Runner franchise) to be distributed in theaters by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
"By getting deeply involved in the movie production with the aim to put smiles on everyone's faces through entertainment, Nintendo will continue its efforts to produce unique entertainment and deliver it to as many people as possible," reads the release.
Mostly financed by Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto will produce the movie alongside Arad Productions Inc. chairman Avi Arad.
Nintendo's latest feature adaptation comes after the company broke back into Hollywood with this year's Super Mario Bros. Movie, which premiered to rave reviews, becoming the second-biggest animated film of all time with $169 million at the global box office.
Meanwhile, the latest Mario and Zelda games recently contributed to Nintendo's most profitable quarter ever.
