Kristin Cavallari Walked Away From ‘Very Cavallari’ So She Wouldn’t Date on TV: ‘I Did That When I Was 20’ (Exclusive)

The Uncommon James founder exclusively tells The Messenger why her kids inspired her to take a step back from reality TV

After growing up on camera, Kristin Cavallari wanted to keep the next chapter of her life relatively private.

The Laguna Beach alum made a conscious decision to end her E! reality show Very Cavallari — which aired for three seasons from 2018 to 2020 — after splitting from husband Jay Cutler.

"I walked away from Very Cavallari because I didn't want to date on a reality show," she exclusively told The Messenger on Tuesday at a Chase Ink Business Premier event, where she was on a panel with host Emma Grede, Pernell Cezar and Wombi Rose. "I did that when I was 20. I don't need to do that as an adult."

Cavallari pointed to sons Camden, 10, and Jaxon, 9, and daughter Saylor, 7, as motivation for stepping away.

"I've got kids now," she explained. "It was one thing when it was just me I had to worry about, but I have a family I need to be concerned about now. I know it makes a really good TV show, and I'm not willing to do all that. There is definitely a level of stress that comes with doing a reality show, and I am so much happier not being on TV."

Cavallari, who founded jewelry brand Uncommon James in 2017, also appeared on Seasons 5 and 6 of MTV's The Hills from 2009 to 2010.

While Cavallari acknowledged she's "so thankful for all three of my reality TV experiences," she's not exactly itching to get back, explaining: "My life is just more peaceful without them."

Furthermore, she said that stopping the reality show has actually been good for business.

"The company is better because of it," Cavallari suggested. "The employees that we were attracting were coming because they wanted to be on the show, not because they just wanted to work for the company. There's one girl that's been with me from the very beginning, and that's it. My team is so good. That wouldn't be the case if we had cameras."

While a return to reality television seems unlikely, Cavallari said she's had "a lot of conversations" about a potential cooking show. However, for time being, she has other priorities.

"Right now, my work-life balance is really great," she said. "It's more life. I'm Mom, first and foremost. That's just kind of how I want to keep it. I'm not really trying to add a whole lot to my plate."
