Kristen Stewart Falls for Female Bodybuilder in Wild, Sexy Trailer for A24’s ‘Love Lies Bleeding’

The Twilight star and Oscar-nominated actress leads the cast of A24's Love Lies Bleeding, described as an "electric new love story." And electric feels about right when watching the trailer, which features bodybuilders, guns, milkshakes, a mustached Dave Franco and a bananas Ed Harris performance.

Written and directed by Rose Glass (Saint Maud), here's the official synopsis: "Reclusive gym manager Lou (Stewart) falls hard for Jackie (Katy O'Brian), an ambitious bodybuilder headed through town to Vegas in pursuit of her dream. But their love ignites violence, pulling them deep into the web of Lou’s criminal family."

Love Lies Bleeding is just the latest fascinating career move by Stewart, who has built as diverse and interesting a résumé as any actor since her Twilight run concluded. In the last few years alone, she's starred in a sci-fi horror movie (Underwater), a holiday rom-com (Happiest Season), a Princess Diana film that is more psychological thriller than biopic (Spencer) and a body horror drama from David Cronenberg (Crimes of the Future).

Her co-star in the new film, O'Brian, has also had an interesting journey in Hollywood. The martial artist and bodybuilder, who boasts a black belt in Hapkido, worked for seven years as a police officer in Indiana before trying her hand at show biz. After getting roles on shows like The Walking Dead, How to Get Away With Murder and Westworld, she scored a recurring part in The Mandalorian as Elia Kane. Most recently, she showed off her bodybuilder physique in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, making her one of the few actors to appear in Star Wars and the MCU.

After premiering at next month's Sundance Film Festival, Love Lies Bleeding opens in theaters on March 8.
