Kate Middleton ‘Strategically’ Oversaw Palace Statement About Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Says Author

Kate Middleton isn't exactly who she seems, royal author Valentine Low said in a recent interview.

"She has this public image of being nice and smiley and, dare I say, innocuous but she is actually strong-minded, strong-willed and prepared to fight for what she wants and what she thinks is right." Low, who penned the book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, told People in an interview published Tuesday.

According to the author, Middleton had a hand in the statement Buckingham Palace released after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. During the sit-down, the couple alleged that there were "concerns and conversations about how dark" their son Prince Archie's skin would be.

Middleton played a role in the phrasing of "some recollections may vary," according to Low, which was part of a short statement released on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II.

"She thought it was very important this did not go unchallenged," Low said. "Kate thinks strategically. She is going to be queen one day and has the longterm interests of the monarchy and royal family at heart."

Middleton made news last month when the Dutch version of Endgame, a tell-all book about the royal family, named her and King Charles III as the two royals who brought up Archie's skin color.

Shortly after the book was released, its Dutch publishers released a statement on Nov. 29 saying: "The rectified edition of Eindstrijd by Omid Scobie will be in bookstores on Friday 8 December. Xander Uitgevers temporarily removed the book from sale, due to an error that occurred in the Dutch edition." (The English version does not name the names of the alleged family members involved.)

According to the book's author, he "never submitted a book that had their names in it."

"I wrote and edited the English version of the book with one publisher," Scobie explained during an appearance on ITV's This Morning. "That then gets licensed to other publishers. I obviously can't speak Italian, German, French, Dutch or any of the other languages."
