Jonathan Van Ness is on the mend after undergoing an unspecified surgery Monday. The Queer Eye star detailed their experience in a series of Instagram Stories that same day.

"I had to get surgery this morning. Don't worry, I'm totally fine! That's what this is," Van Ness began, pointing out a bandage wrapped around their hand. (The reality star identifies as nonbinary and uses he/him, she/her and they/them pronouns.)

They continued, "She had to get like that little IV thing. I've never gone under anesthesia before and when I came out of it, which went really good you guys, I'm gonna be great … Do you know what I said? I woke up and I said, 'Maid in Manhattan.' I haven't thought about that movie since 2006 or whatever? And then I started sobbing."

In a follow-up post, the Getting Curious star continued, "Sidebar, I know that this is morbid but I literally woke up early to wash and blow dry my hair in case I dropped dead on the table or something, because I didn't want a mortician to do it … Is this the hair of someone who just came out of surgery? They said the pain is going to be intense tomorrow but, oh my god, my hair looks great."

Van Ness then revealed that they "just need to rest and do no strenuous activity for literally a week," which is "a long time for me" before asking for recommendations for TV shows to binge while they recover.

Last month, the hair guru announced additional tour dates for their Fun & Slutty tour in 2024. Van Ness opened up to The Messenger about their comedy show in August.

"This idea of sluttiness is really just about to experience pleasure and that can be so not sexual," the Netflix star exclusively told The Messenger. "Sluttiness is what we make of it for ourselves, and we get to own our own narratives of joy and what brings us pleasure. All of my standup is really about duality, queer joy and how really queer joy is the essence of the human experience, which is just joy and that we all get to feel that and express that no matter who you are, and that's not threatening. It's beautiful. It's fun."
