Jonathan Van Ness Teases ‘Fun & Slutty’ Tour: ‘It’s All About Sex Positivity and Making Fun of Republicans’ (Exclusive)

'Sluttiness is what we make of it for ourselves, and we get to own our own narratives of joy,' the 'Queer Eye' star exclusively told The Messenger

Jonathan Van Ness is hitting the road and ready to bring the fun.

This weekend, the Queer Eye star will head to Canada to kick off another round of his Fun & Slutty Tour. While Van Ness — who identifies as non-binary and uses he/she/they pronouns — promises to bring the laughs, he also hopes to spread a message during his act.

"This idea of sluttiness is really just about to experience pleasure and that can be so not sexual," he exclusively told The Messenger. "Sluttiness is what we make of it for ourselves, and we get to own our own narratives of joy and what brings us pleasure. All of my standup is really about duality, queer joy and how really queer joy is the essence of the human experience, which is just joy and that we all get to feel that and express that no matter who you are, and that's not threatening. It's beautiful. It's fun."

With a presidential election approaching in November 2024, Van Ness also can't help but have a little fun with the political climate.

"I make fun of a lot of Republicans along the way and dictators," he joked. "It's really fun. It's all about sex positivity and making fun of Republicans."

Before his next show, the bestselling author teamed up with Autotrader to help shelter dogs in his hometown of Austin, Texas.

In celebration of National Dog Day on Saturday, Van Ness gave makeovers to dogs looking for a forever home at Austin Pets Alive! animal shelter. "They've been on that extended stay, and we would love for them to get on the express lane to a loving home because all of them deserve it," he said. "Autotrader wanted to highlight the importance of animal adoption, which is another cause I just love so much."

And while Van Ness prepares to be away from his rescue dogs for just a short amount of time this tour, he's quick to express the positive impact they have had on his life.

"When another creature is relying on me for something, it just helps you get out of your own head, and it helps you show up for someone else," he said. "There are certain days and I'm just in a bad mood believe it or not. Once you've fed your dogs and spent that time with them in the morning, you're just ready for your day. You just feel better."
