Who Is Jo Koy, Host of the 2024 Golden Globes?
Get to know stand-up comedian and actor Jo Koy, the 2024 Golden Globe Awards host before the show airs
Jo Koy, the Filipino American comedian and actor best known for his appearances as a panelist on Chelsea Lately and his numerous stand-up specials, is the host of the 2024 Golden Globes. Koy has a golden opportunity to have some fun as he helps set the tone for the new iteration of the long-running but embattled awards show.
The show's producers reportedly had trouble finding a host to emcee the event before Koy took the job, partly due to the show's controversy-riddled past. After not airing in 2022 amid studio boycotts, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was disbanded in 2023 following accusations of ethical issues. That same year, the Golden Globes Awards' assets were sold to Eldridge Industries and Dick Clark Productions, and the ceremony officially moved from its longtime home at NBC to CBS.
Who is Jo Koy?
Koy had a big 2023. The comedian and actor starred in Haunted Mansion, and recently finished his Funny Is Funny World Tour. Additionally, Koy lent his voice to two animated films, including Netflix's Monkey King and Leo, and will be heard in the upcoming Paramount+ movie, Tiger's Apprentice.
He has released four stand-up specials on Netflix, most recently 2022's Live from the LA Forum. Much of his material is observational comedy about family life, from being raised by his Filipina immigrant mother to raising his own son.
In 2022, he had the lead role in the family comedy Easter Sunday.
