Bill Clinton, Elton John, Kenny Chesney and Others React to Jimmy Buffett’s Death
The 'Margaritaville' singer died Friday night at the age 76
Musicians, politicians and other celebrities are taking to social media to pay tribute to Jimmy Buffett, the "Margaritaville" singer and "gulf and western" pioneer who died last night at 76.
"Jimmy Buffett's music brought happiness to millions of people," former President Bill Clinton wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "I'll always be grateful for his kindness, generosity and great performances through the years, including at the White House in 2000. My thoughts are with his family, friends and legion of devoted fans."
In an Instagram story, Sir Elton John wrote, "Jimmy Buffett was a unique and treasured entertainer. His fans adored him and he never let them down. This is the saddest of news. A lovely man gone way too soon. Condolences to Jane and the family from David and me."
Country star Kenny Chesney, who collaborated with Buffett on a 2018 cover of Buffett's own "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season" and two songs from Buffett's 2004 album License to Chill, posted a video of himself performing Buffett's song "A Pirate Looks at Forty" on Instagram with the caption, "So goodbye Jimmy. Thanks for your friendship and the songs I will carry in my heart forever. Sail On Sailor."

The Beatles' Paul McCartney penned a lengthy tribute on X and Instagram. "It seems that so many wonderful people are leaving this world, and now Jimmy Buffett is one of them," he wrote. "I've known Jimmy for some time and found him to be one of the kindest and most generous people."
