Investigation Into Taylor Swift Concert Organizer Underway After Fan’s Sudden Death
The investigation comes after Taylor Swift fans complained about concert protocols that were allegedly not appropriate for Brazil's extreme heat
Following the tragic death of a Taylor Swift fan at the superstar's Eras Tour concert in Brazil, an investigation into the show's organizers has been opened.
NBC News reported Wednesday that officials are looking into Brazilian entertainment company Time4Fun, which handled the Rio de Janeiro leg of Swift's Eras Tour shows.
A spokesperson for the Civil Police Department of Rio de Janeiro told the outlet that its consumer delegations department launched an inquiry into "the crime of endangering the life and health" of concertgoers.
The spokesperson added in a statement, "Event organizers will be called to testify, and other steps are underway to investigate the facts."
The department told NBC that the investigation is not directly connected to Machado's death, as Rio's Municipal Health Department said the exact cause of death is still unknown.
While Time4Fun did not immediately respond to The Messenger's request for comment, CEO Serafim Abreu posted a video to Instagram Thursday in which he offered apologies on the company's behalf to "all who did not have the best possible experience."
"We know the enormous responsibility we have to organize an event of this scale, which is why we did not economize in our efforts or resources to follow the best global practices in our industry to guarantee the comfort and safety of all," Abreu said in an English translation.

He also admitted that the company could have taken "alternative steps" to enhance safety and comfortability, including adding more shaded areas during the extreme heat as Rio was experiencing record-high temperatures above 100 degrees at the time.
The company also released a statement, which can be read in full here.
Concertgoer Ana Clara Benevides Machado died on Nov. 17 after reportedly suffering cardiorespiratory arrest and fainting at the Estádio Nilton Santos stadium in Rio de Janeiro, where Swift was scheduled to perform.
Swift took to Instagram to address her devastation, writing on her Story: "I can't believe I'm writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show.
"There's very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young," she added.
Machado's father also spoke out about his grief, telling Brazilian newspaper Folha that he wanted the circumstances around his daughter's death investigated amid reports claiming that T4F prevented fans from bringing water to the show and that other fans had been fainting due to the heat.
