It feels like a millennia since House of the Dragon premiered on HBO, but the Game of Thrones spinoff is returning sooner than later. The cable network released the first posters for House of the Dragon Season 2, reminding everyone that it will be war between the two Targaryen queens: Rhaenyra (Emma D'arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke).

In the first season, Rhaenyra was named successor to the throne by her father, King Viserys (Paddy Considine). But his wife, Alicent, believes he recanted that promise on his death bed, so she put her son Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) on the throne instead. That started a tense standoff between Rhaenyra and her former best friend, but it turned into a blood feud when Alicent's second son, Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) killed Rhaenyra's second son, Lucerys (Elliot Grihault) in a dragon game of chicken gone horribly wrong. Rhaenyra found out about Luke's death in the closing moments of the Season 1 finale, and now the first look posters confirm vengeance is the name of the game in House of the Dragon Season 2.

Alicent's poster reads "blood for blood," which as her mantra when young Aemond lost his eye in a fight with Rhaenyra's sons. She wanted to take Lucerys' eye in exchange but Rhaenyra stopped her. Will she still think blood for blood is acceptable when Rahenyra now comes for Aemond's life?

Lest Alicent forget, Rhaenyra is the Targaryen by blood here. Alicent holds the name in marriage only. So it is only fitting that Rhaenyra's poster reads "fire to fire." Dragons will obviously be involved in her quest to avenge her son, and Lord help anyone who stands in her way. We've all seen what happens when a Targaryen feels like they have a score to settle.

The tweet from the House of the Dragons account also teased that a bigger first look at the new season will be dropping during the HBO session at the CCxP event in Brazil.

House of the Dragon Season 2 premieres summer 2024 on HBO and Max. Season 1 is now streaming on Max.
