Gavin Rossdale Shocked at Fan Throwing Mom’s Ashes at Pink: ‘In a Bizarre Way…That is an Act of Love’ (Exclusive)

Gavin Rossdale added there should have been a 'consensual conversation' between Pink and the fan

Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale has had his fair share of intense fan reactions, though nothing like the recent wave of fans throwing items at their favorite artists. One thing that caught him — and the musician in question and anyone who has watched the video — by surprise was the moment a fan threw their mother's ashes at Pink.

"Oh, you are killing me," he laughed. "Wow. No, yeah, that is brilliant. Oh my god, poor Pink. Oh, you should have to agree to that. There should be some kind of consensual conversation about that."

Rossdale then brought up how Keith Richards honored his father's passing. "Keith Richards is famous for snorting his dad, right? Wow. He did a line of his father. Yeah, he did a line of his dad. He's proud of it as well. Good old Keith. He's got a brand new record out."

The English rocker reflected on the Pink fan's reasoning for throwing the ashes. "I think sort of in a bizarre way...that is an act of love, isn't it?" Rossdale said, given the fan much more grace and empathy than most of the Internet. "She's trying to sort of do something for her mom. Her mom, her mom loved Pink a lot."

As for himself, his own experience over the years has been different — though at times, not any less icky. "People don't chuck stuff at me," Rossdale said. "I mean, I've had it in my career. I've had it on stage. I've had it going on stage in South America for David Bowie and getting spat on. I mean, that's what they do. When you were opening up, it was hardcore and they've all got bad colds. It was terrible."

Rossdale said he used to love bringing fans up on stage, but in 2018 a group of on-stage fans were overly disruptive. "One dude came up from the crowd and he went to sing to grab my mic. What he didn't know was that my tech is an ex-marine and was not happy about this guy sort of barreling in close on me. And so [the tech] drop kicked him," he said.

"That's the only thing that made the news. And my mom goes, 'Oh, you're on tour. I heard this happen.' When you do a great show, not that many people hear about it. But if you've drop-kicked someone on stage, everyone hears about it."
