Back in April, Gavin Rossdale's daughter Daisy Lowe gave birth to her first child, making the English rocker a grandfather. Ahead of his anti-gun-violence benefit concert in New York last week, Rossdale shared his favorite parts of being a grandfather in a new exclusive interview with The Messenger.

"She's so beautiful," Rossdale beamed talking about his granddaughter Ivy Love Saul. "She's like, part of the clan, looks like one of mine. Super DNA."

He contrasted the responsibility of parenting a child with the more supportive role of being a grandparent. "And I'm not responsible in the way I am for the traditional, like, 'OK, that's it. For the next 18 years, you are busy,'" he said. "So it's a beautiful thing. It's incredible."

Rossdale has three sons with his now ex-wife Gwen Stefani: Kingston, 17; Zuma, 15; and Apollo, 9. He had Daisy, 34, with the English designer Pearl Lowe.

"I feel that it's just a life well lived when families grow and it's part of my legacy and it's beautiful thing," Rossdale told The Messenger. "She's the most beautiful part of my legacy."

Rossdale loves spending time with his children. His two eldest sons are quarterbacks, so they train in his backyard when they stay at his house. "We just get out there and they train and then we can swim and mess around," Rossdale said. "We hang out, go out for some good Chinese food Saturday night, something like that, something fun. Or if UFC is on, then we'll just watch that and we'll have a laugh. That's the dreamy, easy day."

He and his band Bush played an anti-gun-violence show at New York's Irving Plaza to benefit Artist for Action and Sandy Hook Promise on Sept 22. As a father, gun control is an issue Rossdale has a personal stake in. When asked about how he teaches his children about gun safety, he replied, "You can't." Rossdale continued, "How can you prepare your kids? There could be a maniac or... You can't. I mean, they see it. It's just awful."
