Gal Gadot Speaks Out About Empathy Amid Conflict Between Israel and Hamas
'I like to think most of us are above propaganda. But this weekend reminded me how widespread it is,' the actress wrote
Gal Gadot continues to share her thoughts on the ongoing Israeli conflict with Hamas.
On Tuesday, the actress took to social media to write candidly about having empathy for both sides and the impacts propaganda has on the entire world.
"If you have less empathy towards victims because of how you feel about their government, propaganda is working on you," she shared in several Instagram Story posts Tuesday. "The goal of propaganda is to dehumanize. It works to dehumanize Israelis and it works to dehumanize Gazans."
Gadot added that she feels propaganda is "widespread" and can impact anyone in the news cycle.
"I like to think most of us are above propaganda. But this weekend reminded me how widespread it is. Because a lot of people reacted to this violence with justification, not empathy," she wrote. "I guess it's not surprising, but it's still heartbreaking. Propaganda is everywhere. It seeps into us over time. It seeks to block our empathy receptors. So when we see violence, we rationalize away our human response."
Following her most recent posts on Tuesday, the actress faced criticism from some of her followers, who argued she took too neutral of a stance and should outwardly support Israel during the conflict. However, she also received praise from pro-Palestinian social media users, who agreed with her extending empathy to both Israelis and Palestinians victims who have been killed in the conflict thus far.
