Group of Friends Celebrates ‘Hanksgiving’ by Dressing Up Like Tom Hanks Movie Characters

'I cannot believe I was invited. It's kind of a pretty exclusive event. And everyone goes really full out,' TikTok user Lily Lester said in the viral video

A group of friends is keeping a special Tom Hanks-themed Thanksgiving tradition alive for another year, celebrating their third annual "Hanksgiving."

In a TikTok video uploaded by user Lily Lester — who was a first-time attendee — she explained how the group marks the special occasion every year.

"Not to brag, but I got invited to Hanksgiving," she began in the clip, which has over 60,000 likes at the time of publication. "It's a party my friend throws every year where everybody dresses up like Tom Hanks. You knew that by the title. There's also pictures of Tom Hanks everywhere."

She continued, "This was the third annual one, I cannot believe I was invited. It's kind of a pretty exclusive event. And everyone goes really full out – like, one hundred percent full out. Costumes were purchased for this event that'll probably never be worn again. That is the true love of Tom Hanks. And then we all got together for a group photo. Tom Hanks, you're invited whenever."

Some of the costumes guests wore include Forrest Gump, Woody from Toy Story, Josh from Big, Captain Miller from Saving Private Ryan, Chuck Noland from Castaway and more.

TikTok users were both impressed and a bit jealous of the Hanks-themed soirée, with one person writing, "I usually avoid other people at all costs — but dayyy-um do I want to be invited to this," while a separate user joked, "I legit invited Tom Hanks to my wedding. He didn’t come. I’m now divorced. Coincidence?"

Another offered an alternative to the large group gathering, adding, "My husband and I celebrate Hanksgiving the day after Thanksgiving. We watch Tom Hanks movies, put up the Christmas tree, and eat leftovers. The best!"
