Adnan Al-Kaissie, who performed in WWE as General Adnan in the early '90s, has died. His death was confirmed by WWE on Wednesday.

The WWE said in the statement, "WWE extends its condolences to Adnan Al-Kaissie’s family, friends and fans."

Al-Kaissie was best known for his portrayal of General Adnan, the pro-Iraqi manager of WWE's Sgt. Slaughter. Making his debut in the summer of 1990, the gimmick played into nationalistic sentiments during the Gulf War.

Adnan, Slaughter and Col. Mustafa, known as the Triangle of Terror, would headline 1991's SummerSlam in a handicap match against Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior.

Prior to his time as General Adnan, Al-Kaissie appeared in WWE as Billy White Wolf, winning the WWE World Tag Team Championship in 1976 alongside Chief Jay Strongbow.

Before joining WWE, Al-Kaissie got his start with Pacific Northwest Wrestling in the 1960s. He would later wrestle for New Japan Pro Wrestling and the American Wrestling Federation.

Al-Kaissie's pre-wrestling career was equally noteworthy. Born in Iraq in 1939, he was a classmate of Saddam Hussein.

In 1971, he wrestled the legendary Andre the Giant in front of a massive crowd, including Hussein, at Baghdad's Al-Shaab Stadium. Al-Kaissie defeated the Giant, which made him a massive star in his home country.

Al-Kaissie was remembered by his former protégé Sgt. Slaughter on Twitter, who wrote, "Together We Became The Most Evil Force In Wrestling History R.I.P. My Friend."
