Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley Reacts to Trend of Fans Throwing Objects on Stage: ‘No Fun’ (Exclusive)
'Years back, there was a beer can or maybe a phone that just about got me,' Kelley recalled to The Messenger, after performing at a weekend summer concert series
From Bebe Rexha to Kelsea Ballerini to Lil Nas X — musicians are increasingly having to worry about being injured by fan-thrown projectiles while performing live.
Speaking exclusively to The Messenger at Friday's Commerce Casino's Summer Concert Series presented by Go Country 105 in Commerce, Calif., Florida Georgia Line's Brian Kelley weighed in on the rash of hurled objects of late.
Noting that he "saw a picture" of his friend and "Meant to Be" collaborator Rexha's facial injuries from an audience-launched cell phone, he said, "I hope she's doing okay. I hate that for her."
Kelley acknowledged even something as small as a bracelet — such as the one that recently hit Ballerini on stage — is "no fun" to endure.
"I hate that for Kelsea Ballerini. I hate that for anybody," he emphasized, adding, "Years back, there was a beer can or maybe a phone that just about got me...I think it was Dustin Lynch that got hit by a beer can like years ago too."
Of the trend: "It's not necessarily new, I'd say," he said. However, "I think the throwing things clearly needs to stop. It's unfortunate that people are getting hit. Nobody wants to feel like something's gonna hit them."
Kelley also noted that throwing objects at the stage can compromise an audience's safety, as well.
