‘Jeopardy!’ Contestant Loses in Crushing Fashion After Misreading Final Jeopardy Clue: Watch

A contestant's failure to correctly read the clue in Final Jeopardy! led to a difficult defeat on Tuesday, leaving the stunned competitor gasping, 'Oh no'

It was not a Hollywood ending for a contestant on Tuesday night's Jeopardy! During the "Final Jeopardy" segment, host Ken Jennings presented this clue: "During Pope John Paul II's 1987 visit to Los Angeles, pranksters covered up this letter in a local landmark."

When it came time for contestant Sophia Weng — who entered the last round in second place — to reveal her answer, she wrote: "What is the Hollywood sign?"

Weng had the correct idea, but she misinterpreted the clue.

"You got the right landmark," Jennings told her, "but didn't tell us the letter, I'm afraid."

A flummoxed Weng looked dismayed and muttered, "Oh no." Weng wagered nearly all of her earnings, leaving her with a third place finish.

One of Weng's competitors, Sharon Bishop, made the correct response (the letter "L," for the record), while Michael Cavalier incorrectly guessed "O," though the smallness of his wager secured him the victory.

Jeopardy! fans were quick to offer support to Weng in the aftermath of her blunder, and some even debated on social media about whether she was "robbed" or not.
