Your Favorite Fall TV Shows Aren’t On — What to Watch Instead

Many fall TV favorites have been impacted by the Hollywood strikes, so the Messenger is offering up some enticing alternatives in the meantime

Fall TV looks incredibly different in 2023 because Hollywood's writers and actors unions have been on strike all summer, fighting for fair pay, better working conditions, and restrictions against Artificial Intelligence. The Writers Guild of America has been on strike since early May, and SAG-AFTRA joined in July, meaning that scripted Fall TV shows couldn't assemble writers' rooms for the new season, let alone start production.

What does that mean for you? For starters, your fall TV favorites like the One Chicago franchise, Grey's Anatomy, Ghosts, Abbott Elementary and more popular network dramas and comedies are not premiering in September, or for the rest of the year. With the 2023 fall TV schedule out of sorts, The Messenger has made a list of substitute shows you can stream or watch until your usual favorites return after the strikes have concluded.

Check out the full list of Fall TV Swap recommendations below, organized by the network of the show you originally planned to watch.

(Note: 9-1-1 fans should check under ABC as the Fox drama was scheduled to switch networks this fall.)
