Drake Releases Surprise Song With Video Featuring Son Adonis

The moody '8AM in Charlotte' follows his promise to bring back the 'old Drake'

Drake is gearing up to release his new album, For All the Dogs, tomorrow on Oct. 6, after postponing it from last month. And today, the rapper shared a surprise single from the LP. The moody "8AM in Charlotte" follows his promise to bring back the "old Drake," with a soulful sample over his easy flow, recalling 2011's Take Care.

The music video features Drake's five-year-old son, Adonis, bouncing alongside his father and sharing his drawings. "Tell me about your beautiful piece of artwork that you sold me," Drake says in the video's opening. Adonis tells a story about a goat running away from monsters, animals and flowers on fire. Adonis also designed the album artwork for For All the Dogs. "Daddy’s name is next to the goat, does that mean that he's the GOAT?” Drake asks. "Yes, so it's Daddy GOAT," Adonis responds.

The new video is in line with the familial themes Drake has been teasing ahead of the album. His release-date announcement came in an Instagram post that also featured a vintage video of his father, Dennis Graham, performing a blues cover in a club.

Drake's forthcoming album will be a companion piece to his previously released debut poetry book, Titles Ruin Everything. A Nicki Minaj feature has been confirmed, and Drake has hinted at guest appearances from artists like Bad Bunny and J. Cole. The Toronto native revealed that For All the Dogs is being mixed by Noah "40" Shebib, who has produced many of his biggest hits, including "Nice for What," "Hotline Bling," "In My Feelings," "The Motto" and more.

Lil Yachty, who has production credits on the album, recently talked about working on the record on his A Safe Place podcast. "It sounds current, you know? It sounds very current," he said. "It has the most, I would say like the most 'performance' album he’ll have, as far as like energy. … I think some of the best Drake verses that I ever heard are on this album."

For All the Dogs will be Drake's eighth studio album, following Honestly, Nevermind and Her Loss, his collaborative LP with 21 Savage, both released last year. If For All the Dogs hits No. 1 on the Billboard albums chart, it'll be Drake's 12th project to achieve that feat and his 14th album to reach the Top 10.
