Drake Hit By Fan’s Phone Onstage at Chicago Tour Kickoff
The 'It's All a Blur' rapper also announced a new, upcoming album and even shaded fellow rapper Childish Gambino
Drake kicked off his It's All a Blur tour Wednesday night in Chicago and became the latest musician to be hit onstage by an object tossed by a fan.
The rapper was performing a cover of Ginuwine's "So Anxious" when someone threw their phone and hit him in the arm. Drake looked down at his hand as the phone crashed to the floor, but didn't let it interrupt his performance.
There's been a recent (and often dangerous) trend of fans throwing things at musicians mid-performance as of late. A tossed phone gave Bebe Rexha a black eye last month, Kelsea Ballerini was hit in the face with a bracelet, and P!nk paused her show when someone gave her their mother's ashes.
Adele recently commented on the interactions onstage at a recent Vegas residency show. "Have you noticed how people are, like, forgetting f--king show etiquette at the moment, people are throwing sh-- onstage? Have you seen that?" asked the "Easy On Me" singer. "F--king dare you. I dare you to throw something at me."
Drake's opening night was an eventful one for other reasons as well. The rapper announced a new "album coming out real soon" and even shaded fellow rapper Childish Gambino.
During the performance of his song "Headlines," dozens of (mostly negative) comments made about Drake over the span of his career scrolled across the screens — including, "The overrated and over-awarded hit song 'This Is America' was originally a Drake diss record."

Gambino confirmed the song indeed "started out as a Drake diss" back in 2018.
