Doja Cat’s ‘Scarlet’ Cover Art Is Eerily Similar to Metal Band Releasing Album the Same Day
Chaver's 'OF GLOOM' cover art features a nearly identical design, and was created by the same artist
Rapper and pop star Doja Cat is gearing up for the release of her fourth album, Scarlet, but the newly revealed cover art immediately drew concerns after fans noticed similarities between it and another upcoming record.
Scarlet's cover art features a red spider against a white background with a teardrop hovering above it. The strikingly similar art in question is the cover art for a metal band named Chaver, who recently announced their album OF GLOOM.
Both musicians credited the artist, Dusty Ray, who shared images of both on his own Instagram story, which is how fans began noticing the likeness between the two images.
And to make matters even crazier, both albums are set to be released on the same day, Sept. 22.
Chaver spoke about working with Ray in another Instagram post last month. "The striking cover art, masterfully crafted by Dusty Ray (who has been with us since our first album), serves as a captivating contrast to the album's intense music, setting the stage for a trip to a place of pain," the band wrote on July 29.
It's unclear if either party will move ahead with the album covers or matching release dates. Some fans believe the similar album covers could be a stunt, or perhaps teasing a collaboration between the two artists, but none of the artists involved have publicly commented on the controversy yet.
