Daryl Hall Is Suing Hall & Oates Bandmate John Oates
Daryl Hall filed a 'contract/debt' lawsuit and temporary restraining order against John Oates in a Nashville court last week, per court documents seen by The Messenger
Hall & Oates members Daryl Hall and John Oates continue to be "out of touch" as the former recently filed a lawsuit against his bandmate.
Per court documents seen by The Messenger, Hall and his trust, The Daryl Hall Revocable Trust, sued Oates, as well as his individual trust, The John W. Oates TISA Trust and its co-trustees, in the Nashville Chancery Court on Nov. 16.
The details of Halls' filing are slim as the documents are sealed, however, the case type is "contract/debt". Oates filed a "verified complaint for preliminary relief" through arbitration and requested a temporary restraining order, which will be heard on Nov. 30.
The Messenger reached out to a rep for the musicians and Hall's attorney, Robb S. Harvey, for comment. It is not clear who is representing Oates to comment on his behalf.
During the peak of their success, Hall & Oates released eight platinum records, and six of their songs went No. 1. The two, who have also released their own solo projects, are known for hits like "Maneater," "Out of Touch," and "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)."
Last year, Hall made it clear they won't be releasing any new music together.

"I don’t have any plans to work with John. I mean, whatever. Time will tell," he told the L.A. Times.
He noted that they were working on music together "before the pandemic," adding, "Perceptions changed, life changed, everything changed. I’m more interested in pursuing my own world. And so is John."
"That takes me back to what I was saying about duos. I had to say, 'And so is John.' I couldn’t just say what I think, I had to add what he thinks. That’s the f— up part of being a duo."
