It's official: A Wormwood family reunion is on its way!

Danny DeVito is about to begin performing on Broadway alongside his daughter Lucy DeVito, but the legendary actor hasn't forgotten about one of his most memorable onscreen offspring. Directed by DeVito and based on the novel by Roald Dahl, the beloved 1996 family comedy Matilda starred Mara Wilson as 6-year-old genius Matilda Wormwood, who possesses telekinetic powers that she uses against her terrible, neglectful parents, played by DeVito and his real-life wife Rhea Perlman.

Now, more than 25 years later, DeVito and Wilson are set to reunite for "Matilda in Concert," which will find the duo narrating the film with composer David Newman playing his score.

"Mara and I were planning to perform Matilda live with the New Jersey Philharmonic Orchestra just before the strike hit," DeVito tells The Messenger, referencing the SAG strike. "We had it all set, but, after the strike hit, we couldn't proceed because it would be seen as a promotion for a movie. However, we're still planning to do that. We're going to watch the movie with David Newman's score and try to do it sometime soon, as it seems the strike may be coming to an end — I hope!"

Having broken out at a young age thanks to leading roles in Mrs. Doubtfire, Miracle on 34th Street and Matilda, Wilson has spoken openly about the "lasting damage" of being a child star. However, she has also talked highly of the filmmakers she worked with, such as DeVito.

"The thing that people assume is that Hollywood is inherently corrupt, and there's something about being on film sets that destroys you," she told The Guardian earlier this year. "For me, that was not necessarily true. I always felt safe on film sets... I think that's because I worked with a lot of really wonderful directors, who were used to working with children."

Meanwhile, DeVito and his real daughter will appear together in the Broadway play I Need That, with performances beginning on Oct. 13 ahead of a Nov. 2 opening night at the American Airlines Theatre. Visit RoundaboutTheatre.org for more information.
