Danny DeVito Says Arnold Schwarzenegger ‘Should Have Done ‘Twins 2′ Instead of Becoming Governor’

Even if it's too late for a sequel to Ivan Reitman's 1988 buddy comedy film Twins, Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger still want to make another movie together.

"Arnold and I want to work together," DeVito told GQ in a new interview. "We missed Twins 2, because he became governor – which, he should have done Twins 2 instead of becoming governor."

Schwarzenegger put his acting career on hold when he served as the 38th governor of California from 2003 to 2011.

A Twins sequel titled Triplets, with Eddie Murphy joining the cast as Schwarzenegger and DeVito's long-lost brother, was first announced in 2012. Filming was eventually set to begin in 2021 with Tracy Morgan as the third brother, but the project stalled when director Ivan Reitman died shortly after.

"Now we have a little thing going, a little project that we've been chatting about," DeVito added, teasing a non-Twins reunion with Schwarzenegger. "It's just two friends, two guys, because we have a good time together. We complement each other in a lot of ways. I am way stronger than he is."

In May, Schwarzenegger discussed the scrapped Twins sequel and confirmed that he's working on a new project with DeVito, whom he also acted alongside in Ivan Reitman's 1994 comedy Junior.

"Jason Reitman f---ed it up!" Schwarzenegger told The Hollywood Reporter. "Jason Reitman literally stopped the project when his father died. His father wanted to do it really badly. I wanted to do it really badly. Danny DeVito wanted to do it really badly. We had the financing. When his father passed away, Jason says, 'I never liked the idea' and put a hold on it."

"I'm developing another movie with Danny," he added. "He's so much fun to work with and so talented."
