Country Star Craig Morgan Ran Into Crowd to Save His Wife During Texas State Fair Shooting
'I was doing everything I could to let everybody know to just get out of there and find a safe place,' Morgan told fans on social media
Craig Morgan was set to headline the Texas State Fair over the weekend, but instead found himself in the middle of a shooting frenzy.
On Sunday, the "That's What I Love About Sundays" singer — whose concert was canceled on Saturday due to the shooting — took to social media to explain the scary turn of events and thank law enforcement for their quick response.
"I hate that happened," Morgan said in the video, posted to Facebook. "We love Texas and we are super grateful to the Dallas police department ... that was one of the quickest reactions."
"Some of you may have seen me," he added of the chaotic scene. "My wife was actually out on the grounds when it was happening. So, I ran out to get her and get her back and secured. And in the process of doing so, I was doing everything I could to let everybody know to just get out of there and find a safe place."
A suspect was arrested late Saturday after police responded to the Dallas shooting.
Dallas Sr. Cpl. Melinda Gutierrez said three people were struck by gunfire when one man shot at another, according to WFAA. All suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Guiterrez said.
The shooting was reported around 8 p.m., according to NBC 5, and the suspect was in custody shortly afterward, said Dallas police.

The fair was evacuated as the incident unfolded, according to a safety alert issued by the the State Fair of Texas on X.
Speaking with Fox News, Morgan — a veteran who has served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve — said his urge to protect comes naturally given his history.
"My mental capacity in that arena has never changed. In fact, that's easier for me than this music stuff most of the time," Morgan said. "There's a term, 'Once a soldier, always a soldier.' For me, I have never quit being a soldier, even though I was no longer actually serving in the capacity of a service member on duty. In my head, I've always been a soldier and I always will be."
Morgan — whose new EP, Enlisted, debuts on Oct. 20. — was sworn in again at age 59 to the U.S. Army Reserve in July.
"I'm proud, I'm honored, and I'm humbled to be a part of what I think is some of the greatest Americans in our country," Morgan said of his decision to re-enlist. "There's a sense of pride and humility, two words that are very seldom able to coincide. And I tell people all the time, I think the military is one of the few places where that takes place. Law enforcement service to our country is where you can be very proud and humble at the same time. It's a different kind of pride, not an arrogant pride. It's a sense, a sense of humility, and I'm humbled beyond words to be able to be a part of that again."
Morgan's EP is a six-song project that features fellow country stars Lainey Wilson, Blake Shelton, Trace Adkins, Luke Combs, Gary LeVox and Jelly Roll.
