‘Charlie’s Angels’ Director McG Reveals Which A-List Star He’d Most Want to Cast In a Third Film (Exclusive)

While speaking to The Messenger in a recent interview, McG shared who he'd love to cast in 'Charlie's Angels 3' and hinted at what character that actor would play

It's been over 20 years since Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle kicked its way into theaters. While there's no official word on a third film, director McG has a pretty good idea of who he'd want to cast if the franchise returned.

"I think that the magic of that movie is entirely Drew [Barrymore], Cameron [Diaz] and Lucy [Liu]," McG told The Messenger in a recent interview while promoting his upcoming Netflix film Family Switch. "But wouldn't it be fun if Ryan Gosling found his way into that movie?"

Though the director stayed mum as to what role he'd most want to see Gosling play ("I certainly can't share that!"), he did give one possible hint.

"By the way, if you know anything about Drew's character's taste in men, she seems to like the love interest and the villain at the same time," he said.

Barrymore and Liu have offered varying degrees of enthusiasm about making a third Charlie's Angels. During an episode of Drew's News podcast in 2022, Barrymore said she would return in a "heartbeat."

She added, "The answer is an emphatic 'yes.' I will always say 'yes.'"

Liu offered a more tepid reaction when asked about a third film, telling ExtraTV last year, "I think we teamed up as moms. It's really nice that we're all moms now since that time, and it's just a different phase in our lives."

Diaz, meanwhile, has mostly retired from the acting business after wrapping the Netflix film Back in Action in April. The trio have remained close, with Liu and Diaz appearing on the first episode of The Drew Barrymore Show in 2020.

"The thing that I love about our friendship is that we have been there in all the big and important moments; we've also been there in the small moments and the casual moments," the talk show host said of her friends. "The reason we are such good friends is because it's real, and we go through real stuff with each other. It's not a Hollywood fairy tale."
