2023 was a big year for celebrity splits, with multiple A-list couples calling it quits. Here are some of the biggest celebrity divorces and breakups of 2023.

Corinne Olympios and Jerry Morris

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: One year.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: January.

WHY: A source close to the former Bachelor star and her boyfriend told Page Six: "They were both very busy with their own careers. Corinne has a huge project she’ll be announcing in the spring." Additionally, the insider added, the former couple struggled with "trust issues that were weighing heavily on their relationship."

Shantel VanSanten and Victor Webster

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Nearly two years of marriage; the former couple met on the set of Hallmark’s Love Blossoms in 2017 and got engaged in 2020. 

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: January 10.

WHY: Unknown.

Deanna Pappas and Stephen Stagliano

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for 11 years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: January 19.

WHY: "It is with immense sadness, Stephen & I have decided to end our relationship as a couple. We have been working hard for a long time — both as a married couple & as individuals & have come to the conclusion to remain separate," the 41-year-old former Bachelorette wrote in a statement posted on Instagram. "We remain loving parents to our beautiful children, Addison & Austin, & will continue to raise them together with love & faith. We ask you to respect our privacy during this difficult time as we navigate the new normal. We want to thank our dear friends & family for your endless support & many, many prayers during what has become the most difficult time of our lives."

Drew Sidora and Ralph Pitman

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for eight years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Both Sidora and Pitman filed for petitions for divorce in February.

WHY: According to People, the actress and Real Housewives of Atlanta star submitted an amended divorce filing with allegations against her ex, claiming that he’s a "serial cheater and adulterer." Additionally, Sidora claimed Pitman abused her mentally, financially and has gotten "physically aggressive" with her in the past. 

Maddie Ziegler and Eddie Benjamin

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Three years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: In February, a source close to the couple confirmed the split to People.

WHY: Unknown. However, Benjamin, a musician, released a single this year titled "All for Nothing." Some lyrics include, "Why did you lie? I honored you. I love straight through but did it mean anything to you? All of the memories that you threw, all for nothing."

Camila Cabello and Austin Kevitch

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: The former couple first sparked romance rumors in June 2022.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: In February, a newsletter was sent to Lox Club subscribers (Kevitch is CEO of the dating app) noting that "Austin is single again."

WHY: Unknown. 

Maisie Williams and Reuben Selby

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Five years. 

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: February 24.

WHY: Announcing the split via Instagram, the Games of Thrones actress wrote: "@reubenselby_ and I decided to end our relationship. Since we met 5 years ago, our connection always extended deeply into our shared, and separate, creative careers ... and it will continue to do so.This decision is something we are so grateful for so as we can protect the magic, that we can't help but emit, whenever we put our brains together."

Ryan Edwards and Mackenzie Edwards

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for six years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Mackenzie filed for divorce on February 27. The Teen Mom OG star was granted a temporary restraining order against Ryan.

WHY: Ryan has struggled with substance abuse for years; all of which has been documented on Teen Mom OG.

Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: The former couple first met in January 2021, and became engaged in April 2022. 

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: In March, Mod Sun seemingly addressed the split on Instagram writing: "In 1 week my entire life completely changed…I just know there’s a plan for it all," he wrote. "I’ll keep my head up + always listen to my heart, even when it feels broken 💔 Being surrounded by love every night on tour has been an absolute blessing. I have the best friends in the entire world, thanks for always having my back. See you on stage." 

WHY: Sources close to the former couple told TMZ that the two were "on and off" for the last few months of their relationship. The insider claimed there was no cheating involved. 

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for 12 years. 

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: On March 24, the former couple shared a joint statement on social media: "We have some personal news to share… It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together. Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time."

WHY: According to People, Witherspoon cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their divorce.

Amy Slaton and Michael Halterman

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for four years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Halterman filed for divorce in March.

WHY: Unknown. The 1000-pound Sisters stars share two sons: Gage, 2 and Glenn, 8 months.

Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Nine years.
WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: The former Vanderpump Rules couple called it quits in March 2023. 

WHY: News of the split surfaced after Sandoval allegedly cheated on her with VP costar Raquel Leviss, sparking a major reality TV cultural moment known as "Scandoval." 

Kellyanne Conway and George Conway

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for 22 years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: The former couple announced their split on March 4, 2023 in a statement on Twitter: "We are in the final stages of an amicable divorce," Kellyanne, Donald Trump’s final campaign manager in the 2016 election and later, a senior counselor to the president in the Trump administration from 2017 to 2020, and George, an attorney, wrote in the statement. "We married more than two decades ago, cherish the many happy years (and four corgis) we've shared, and above all else, our four incredible children, who remain the heartbeat of our family and our top priority. Kindly respect our privacy. We appreciate the many family members, friends and colleagues who know us, care for us, and support us. We remain united as parents to provide love, joy, comfort and protection to our beautiful children."

WHY: During Trump’s tenure, George quickly became one of the former president’s toughest and most vocal critics. In Kellyane’s memoir Here's the Deal, released on May 24, 2022, she wrote: "On one side was my marriage and my husband. On the other was my job and my boss. George was mixing the two of them in a highly combustible manner. I was able to keep these things separate and in perspective. George should have, too, but it seemed the flood of reaction and attention he was receiving was magnetic and irresistible."

Eva Marcille and Michael Sterling

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for four years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum filed for divorce on March 23.

WHY: "This has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, but sometimes life takes your journey in a direction you were not expecting," Marcille exclusively told People. "Our children remain our biggest priority and the eight and half years we have spent together will always be cherished. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time." The couple share two children: 4-year-old Michael Sterling, Jr., and Maverick Sterling, 3. Marcille is also mom to daughter Marley Rae from a previous relationship. 

Sophia Culpo and Braxton Berrios

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Two years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Culpo confirmed the breakup through a series of TikTok videos on March 23.

WHY: During an Instagram live on April 26, Culpo said the relationship "didn't end well or honestly. A lot of trust was broken. But, I have an amazing support system and I appreciate everyone's love & support so, so much."

Joanna Krupa and Douglas Nunes

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for four years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Nunes filed for divorce from the Real Housewives of Miami alum in Los Angeles on March 24. According to The Blast, Nunes cited their separation date as Jan. 2, 2023. 

WHY: Nunes, a businessman, listed "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for divorce. 

AJ McLean and Rochelle McLean

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for 11 years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: TMZ was first to report the news on March 27. "Marriage is hard, but worth it," the Backstreet Boy and his wife said in a joint statement. "We have mutually decided to separate temporarily to work on ourselves, and on our marriage with the hope of building a stronger future. The plan is to come back together and continue to nurture our love for one another and our family. We ask for respect and privacy at this time. Separation is hard enough without the commentary, please be kind and remember there are children involved."

WHY: According to People, Rochelle "initiated" the split. "There were some trust issues," an insider told the outlet. "Close friends don't see them getting back together, though AJ really thinks they will."

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Six years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: On April 8, sources confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the couple had split.

WHY: A source close to Swift told People the split was caused by "differences in their personalities." "They've had rough patches before and always worked things out, so friends thought they would take some time apart but eventually come back together," the source said, before noting that the duo "weren't the right fit for one another."

Drake Bell and Janet Von Schmeling

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for five years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: The former couple separated in 2022; Von Schmeling filed for divorce on April 20,  citing "irreconcilable differences," according to People. 

WHY: The filing came just one week after Bell was reported missing and endangered in Florida. He was later found. According to People, the child star sought outpatient help for substance abuse late last year. The former couple share one child together: son Jeremy, 2. 

Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for three years. 

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Allen announced the news on April 21. 

WHY: The country singer, 37, took to Instagram to share the news with his followers. "After much thought and reflection in recent months, Lex & I have made the decision to separate," Allen wrote in a statement. "As we navigate this life change, we can also share that we will be welcoming another child together later this year. Our number one priority is and always will be ensuring that our children are healthy, happy and loved, and we remain committed to co-parenting with love and respect for one another." The former couple share daughters Zara James, 17 months, and Naomi Bettie, 3. Allen is dad to son Aadyn from a previous relationship. 

Shannen Doherty and Kurt Iswarienko

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for 11 years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Doherty filed for divorce on April 21, 2023.

WHY: "Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted," Doherty’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, told Page Six in April. "Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option. You can contact Kurt’s agent, Collier Grimm at PICTUREKID, as she is intimately involved,'" Sloane added.

Brie Larson and Elijah Allan-Blitz

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: The duo first sparked dating rumors in July 2019 and made their first red carpet appearance together at the 2020 Oscars.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Larson confirmed she is single during an interview for Harper's Bazaar’s April issue. "I had all the same normal fears as everybody else about being single and being 30," said Larson. "What do I want? How does a family and a future fit in with my weird life?"

WHY: Unknown.

Elle Fanning and Max Minghella

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: The former couple first met in 2018 on the set of the film Teen Spirit and made their red carpet debut at the 2019 Met Gala. 

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Though it is unknown when they officially split, Manning confirmed she is currently single during an interview with Harper Bazaar’s UK in April. "But I’m a hopeless romantic. I believe in love at first sight," she told the outlet. "Call me crazy, but I believe in those things. I feel that it’s my destiny."

WHY: In January, a source told US Weekly that the pair are "very private people," but have "been serious for a good while." The insider added that it has "suited them" in keeping their relationship out of the spotlight. 

Jeremy Allen White and Addison Timlin

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Together since 2008; married in 2019..

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: May.

WHY: They have not publicly disclosed a reason for the split, but in October, it was revealed that White agreed to daily alcohol testing in order to get joint custody of their daughters. According to legal documents obtained by The Messenger, White will be allowed to spend time with his children if he uses a Soberlink device to prove he is not intoxicated around them. In an interview with GQ, The Bear star acknowledged that it had been an "insane" year, with "a lot of high highs, a lot of terribly low lows.”

Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married 11 years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: May.

WHY: The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum and former pro athlete, who share six children together — Kroy "KJ" Jagger Jr., 12, Kash Kade, 11, and 9-year-old twins Kaia Rose and Kane Ren (Biermann also adopted Brielle, 26, and Ariana, 22, Zolciak's daughters from a previous relationship) — shocked fans after they filed for divorce in May after 11 years of marriage. They called off the divorce two months later. However, Biermann then filed for divorce for the second time at Fulton County Superior Court in Georgia in August.

Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Less than one year.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: May.

WHY: Nearly a month after attending the Coachella music festival together in Indio, Calif., the pair decided to break up after less than a year of dating. "We can confirm Billie and Jesse did split amicably and remain good friends," a rep for Eilish told People in a statement. "All cheating rumors are false. Both are currently single."

Billy Porter and Adam Smith

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married six years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: July. "I can confirm that Billy Porter and his husband Adam Smith have made the sad decision to end their marriage after six years," a representative for the Emmy-winning Pose actor said. "The decision was an amicable and mutual one and was made after much consideration. They continue to love and support each other as they embark on this next chapter."

WHY: "Relationships are hard," Porter told the Evening Standard. "I will always love him. We made it as far as we could. But we learn, we grow and we live. And I’m looking forward to the next ... adventure." During their divorce proceedings, Porter's attorney accused Smith of preventing Porter from visiting their cockapoo, Lola.

Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married six years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: July.

WHY: "We have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years," Martin and Yosef said in the statement shared to their respective Instagram pages. "Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on peace and friendship to continue the joint upbringing of our children, preserving the respect and love we have for each other."

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: July.

WHY: "In regards to the news that came out about us today... any claims regarding us divorcing are untrue," read a statement the pair shared on their respective Instagram accounts. "However, yes, we have had a rough year. The most challenging one of our marriage. But we both love and respect each other tremendously. There has been no wrongdoing on anyone's part. WHY: "We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives," they said in a statement to Page Six.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: August.

WHY: "After sharing the news with family and close friends first, and taking the time to properly process it ourselves, we are saddened with heavy hearts to share that we have decided to end our engagement," Tartick wrote. WHY: "It is with great sadness that Courtney and I have made the decision to separate after many wonderful years together," Corey said at the time in a statement shared with The Messenger. "We have been through so much together and still have much love and respect for each other. There is no one to blame. This is a case of life becoming really hard, Courtney dealing with health issues, and two people who have grown apart and now find themselves at a crossroads."

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: August.

WHY: The One Tree Hill star filed for divorce from her husband Grant Hughes on Friday after 13 months of marriage, People reported. "Sophia and Grant were friends for 10 years and bonded during COVID through their love of community service," a source close to the couple told the publication. "They continue to run their non-profit together and remain good friends."

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for one year.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: In August, a source told The Messenger, "They are going through a really hard time and are currently split."

WHY: The pair had been known to get into major fights, according to a report from TMZ.

Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Two years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: In August, shortly after Jackson publicly criticized Palmer for wearing a sexy outfit to an Usher concert.

WHY: In a November court filing for a restraining order and custody of their son, who was born in February, Palmer accused Jackson of being physically abusive towards her. "Darius trespassed into my home without my knowledge or consent, threatened me, then physically attacked me — lunging for my neck, striking me, throwing me over the couch, and stealing my phone when I told him I was going to call the police," she claimed, according to court documents.

Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married two years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Filed for divorce in September; TMZ previously reported that the couple had originally parted ways in January. 

WHY: Unknown. Grande is now dating her Wicked co-star Ethan Slater.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married six years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Jonas filed for divorce in September.

WHY: "They have been trying to make it work but decided to go their separate ways in August," an insider told The Messenger. "Distance was a huge factor as Joe has been busy on tour, and Sophie has been spending most of her time in the U.K. They have been incredibly unhappy and not on the same page while Joe's been touring." The Game of Thrones actress and Jonas Brothers singer have been going back and forth over custody of their two daughters.

Jeannie Mai Jenkins and Jeezy

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: September.

WHY: "The decision to end this chapter in my life was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart," the rapper said in a statement to The Messenger. "Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart. Our beautiful daughter is the best gift from our relationship and I am committed to assuring she feels the love and stability she deserves. Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Jackman

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married 27 years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: September.

WHY: "We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth," the exes said as they announced their split in a statement to People. "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives."

Bijou Phillips and Danny Masterson

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married 12 years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Phillips filed for divorce on Sept. 18, less than two weeks after Masterson was sentenced to 30 years in prison for two counts of forcible rape.  

WHY: The actress and model cited "irreconcilable differences" in her filing for divorce from the That '70s Show actor. "Ms. Phillips has decided to file for divorce from her husband during this unfortunate time. Her priority remains with her daughter," her attorney Peter A. Lauzon told The Messenger. "This period has been unimaginably hard on the marriage and the family. Mr. Masterson was always present for Ms. Phillips during her most difficult times of her life. Ms. Phillips acknowledges that Mr. Masterson is a wonderful father to their daughter." 

Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: The actors were married for nearly four years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Turner-Smith filed for divorce on Oct. 2.

WHY: In her divorce filing, Morris cited "irreconcilable differences." When discussing her new bob haircut during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, she said she "cut all the trauma out of my hair." 

Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married five years.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Morris filed for divorce on Oct. 2.

WHY: In her divorce filing, Turner-Smith cited "irreconcilable differences" as a reason and asked for joint custody of their 3-year-old daughter, Janie.

Chris Appleton and Lukas Gage

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: Married for seven months.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Appleton filed for divorce on Nov. 10.

WHY: "Their relationship was very rushed," an insider told The Messenger. "They had insane chemistry that was short-lived. It was hot and heavy in the beginning, and the dynamic declined real quick. Reality settled in, and they decided they are not a good fit and have completely different goals and lifestyles."

Cardi B and Offset

HOW LONG WERE THEY TOGETHER: The rappers married in 2017 and have been on and off since then.

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: Cardi B announced their split in December after they unfollowed each other on Instagram.

WHY: "You know when you just out grow relationships," Cardi wrote on Instagram. "I'm tired of protecting peoples feelings...I GOTTA PUT MYSELF FIRST." 

Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny

WHEN DID THEY SPLIT: December.

WHY: Multiple sources confirmed exclusively to The Messenger that the couple quietly split a few weeks ago. The breakup, however, is anything but dramatic. "There's no bad blood," a source close to The Kardashians star explained. "They are even still in contact. Their relationship had been rocky due to their busy schedules."
