Britney Spears Says She Was ‘Comatose’ After Justin Timberlake Split

The Grammy Award winner wrote in her memoir that she felt like she was portrayed as a 'harlot who'd broken the heart of America's golden boy' after she and Timberlake broke up in 2002

Britney Spears is sharing her side of the story more than 20 years after she and Justin Timberlake called it quits.

In a new excerpt from her forthcoming memoir, The Woman in Me, Spears detailed the aftermath of her and the boy bander's messy 2002 breakup, including her reaction to the blonde lookalike cast in Timberlake's video for "Cry Me a River."

"A woman who looks like me cheats on him and he wanders around sad in the rain," she wrote according to the New York Times, adding that she thought the media portrayed her as a "harlot who'd broken the heart of America's golden boy."

Noting her reality of the situation, she continued: "I was comatose in Louisiana, and he was happily running around Hollywood."

The Grammy Award-winning pop star — who confirmed in her memoir, per the Times, the longtime rumor that she kissed choreographer Wade Robson while dating Timberlake but hinted her behavior was in response to rumors of the Justified artist's own infidelity — also recalled feeling forced to do the Diane Sawyer interview in 2003.

During their sit-down, the longtime broadcast journalist famously asked the "...Baby One More Time" singer what she did to cause the Friends With Benefits actor "so much pain."

"I felt like I had been exploited, set up in front of the whole world," she wrote, adding that she hit her "breaking point" during the interview.

Additionally, the Circus artist went on to reveal that she had an abortion while she and Timberlake were together. The pair dated from 1999 until their 2002 split.

"It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn't a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I'd anticipated," Spears wrote, according to an excerpt published by People. "Justin definitely wasn't happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren't ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."
