The biggest celebrities in entertainment hit the red carpet at the 14th Annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles Tuesday night, where stars like Angela Bassett and Mel Brooks received honorary Oscars. 

The star-studded soirée — attended by Margot Robbie, Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, Leonardo DiCaprio and more — saw some of the boldest looks from this year's awards season yet. The Messenger takes a look at some of the head-turning ensembles worn by attendees.

Zac Efron

The Iron Claw star opted for a red turtleneck under his black two-piece Fendi suit in lieu of a standard button down — a sophisticated twist on a classic look.

Fantasia Barrino and Jon Batiste

While many A-listers went with a classic black tux, Batiste flipped the script in a crisp, all-white getup. The singer posed with Barrino, who wore a custom strapless Ronny Kobo gown featuring an eye-catching white ruffle overlay at the hip.

Carey Mulligan

The Governors Awards red carpet saw tons of statement-making details on otherwise classic silhouettes, and Mulligan's off-the-shoulder black-and-white gown is a prime example. The actress — who posed with Maestro co-star Bradley Cooper — kept her makeup natural and opted for minimal jewelry, keeping the focus on her stunning dress.

Julianne Moore

Moore stole the show in a head-turning Valentino metallic cape dress, pairing her bold ensemble with a smokey eye and mauve lip.

Eugene Lee Yang

Yang, who rose to internet fame as one of Buzzfeed's Try Guys, had jaws on the floor in an electric two-piece yellow suit with cutouts on the waist and legs, adding black sock boots to round out his look.

Ava DuVernay

The filmmaker was radiant while posing in a custom strapless Louis Vuitton gown that featured voluminous white sleeves, adding what appears to be diamond jewelry to finish off her chic and sleek ensemble.

Danielle Brooks

The Color Purple actress dazzled in head-to-toe sequins, showing off her stunning curves in a body-hugging floor-length gown.

Leonie Benesch

The Crown star also opted for a head-to-toe sequin gown, which featured a deep plunging neckline.

Emily Blunt

The Oppenheimer actress wowed in a classic sleeveless Miu Miu dress adorned with a silver design at the center, pairing the gown with jewels from Tiffany's.

Lenny Kravitz

The rock star took his signature oversized layered look to the next level by playing with textures, giving his getup a luxe edge. 

America Ferrera 

The Barbie star proved that men aren't the only ones who can rock a classic tux! Ferrera was one of many who opted for menswear over a gown, donning a custom Moschino ensemble paired with Gianvito Rossi shoes.
