Beyoncé Makes Surprise Appearance in Brazil, Tries and Fails Mute Challenge

Beyoncé's concert film Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé premiered Thursday in Brazil, and to celebrate its release, the "Cuff It" singer stopped by the post-screening "Club Renaissance" afterparty at a convention center in Salvador, Bahia.

"Brazil, I love you so much," she said to the screaming crowd. "I came because I love you so much…. It was very important to be here, right here."

Wrapped in silver from head to toe, the pop superstar attempted to quiet the crowd with her viral "Mute Challenge," saying, "Look around, everybody on mute," and the audience goes silent. Brazilian fans were far too excited to obey. Beyoncé attempted it twice before giving up and grinning.

"I was not able to come for the Renaissance Tour, but I'm so happy to give y'all the Renaissance film," Beyoncé addressed the crowd. "You are the Renaissance."

The surprise marks Beyoncé's first public appearance in the country in over ten years.

She teased it on social media Thursday with an image of her silver Renaissance horse Reneigh peeking out of a private jet on her Instagram Story. She also changed the location on her Instagram to Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.

She later showed images from the event, including her wrapping herself in the Brazillian flag.

The singer is currently worth an estimated $800 million, Forbes reported earlier this month. Beyoncé's net worth exploded by $300 million this year due to her Renaissance World Tour and the release of the concert film.
