Anthony Anderson and Cedric the Entertainer’s Father’s Day Plans Are No Laughing Matter: ‘Leave Me Alone’ (Exclusive)

'My kids never thought I was funny - they give all the credit to my mother,' the black-ish actor tells The Messenger ahead of Father's Day

For Father's Day weekend, less is more.

At least, that certainly is the case for Anthony Anderson and Cedric the Entertainer. While the comedians love being dads, they both agree that the holiday doesn't need to be some extravagant affair.

"We used to have a great Father's Day golf thing that we did," Cedric exclusively tells The Messenger. "But my kids, they usually get together and we'll go out to eat and just sit and talk."

And perhaps have a little fun at their dad's expense, too.

"They'll try to tell me stories of things that I did in the last year that were the big impressions that they had," he continued. "They're very funny children so they often think of the things that made them laugh that I had to do."

For Anderson, his ideal Sunday is even more simple: "Leave me alone."

"My kids never thought I was funny," the black-ish star explained. "They give all the credit to my mother [Doris Hancox]."

But for Cedric, everyone in his family is ready to make each other laugh with their unique perspectives.

"Both of my kids have a quirky sense of humor," he shared. "My son's a little more like me. My daughter is dry and quick-witted like my wife [Lorna Wells]. But we get a kick out of each other and so they still think I'm kind of funny. They always find it surprising when they see me perform on a stage, though, and see how people react to me. They didn't think I was that kind of funny."

Jokes aside, Anderson and Cedric have been hard at work on the launch of their new line of BBQ rubs, AC Barbeque.

Available at select Walmart stores, the barbecue seasonings honor and celebrate the rich flavors of various global culinary traditions and pay homage to the diverse world of barbecuing.

Working on the BBQ rubs together has made Anderson and Cedric's friendship of 25 years even stronger.

"We have a great core group of guys that we travel and golf with," Anderson detailed. "More oftentimes than not, Ced and I are always the ones in the kitchen preparing the meals for the group. That's where our love of this comes from. We saw an opportunity for us to do something that we love to do individually. But more importantly, to build a brand and to build the business as friends."
