Fall TV Swap: With ‘Abbott Elementary’ Delayed, Watch This Laugh-Out-Loud School Sitcom Instead

Many fall TV favorites have been impacted by the Hollywood strikes, so the Messenger is offering up some enticing alternatives in the meantime

This fall, a weeknight staple will be missing from our TV schedules: Abbott Elementary.

The sweet ABC sitcom — which follows school teacher Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson) and her coworkers as they deal with the ups and downs of teaching at Philadelphia's fictional Abbott Elementary — won't be returning as usual this fall for Season 3, due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Currently, both actors and television writers are demanding fair wages, residuals for streaming series and guardrails on the use of artificial intelligence, meaning most network series aren't coming back during their regularly scheduled time slots.

But you don't have to skip class just yet. If you're missing Abbott, The Messenger has compiled a number of equally adorkable series that'll make you as excited as Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter) on Eagles game day.

If you like 'Abbott Elementary,' watch 'A.P. Bio'

If you're ready to get back to school with another hilarious (and, perhaps, slightly educational) sitcom, A.P. Bio may be the show for you.

The series takes all the chaos and excitement of molding young minds and crosses it with a vengeful teacher dead-set against teaching. From the minds behind Saturday Night Live, A.P. Bio stars It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Glenn Howerton as Jack Griffin, a Harvard scholar who lost his job to an academic rival. Now forced to teach A.P. Biology in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio, Griffin instead turns his students to the task of getting revenge.

While Abbott Elementary may deal with younger students' childlike wonder (and sass), A.P. Bio features a slightly darker tone, following Griffin's descent from academic stardom. But it still nails all of the seemingly simple revelations that can come from interacting with children. Watch A.P. Bio for the quick quips, stay for the love of learning.

Where to watch 'A.P. Bio'

All four seasons of A.P. Bio are available to stream exclusively on Peacock.

Where to watch: Stream all eight seasons on Hulu and Disney+.
  • New Girl: If you're wanting to root for an adorable, quirky teacher, New Girl is the show for you.
