United Parcel Service plans to hire more than 100,000 seasonal workers to help with the holiday shopping rush.

While the company's hiring remains in line with hiring over the past three years, seasonal workers will now be paid higher wages due to a provision of UPS's recently passed labor contract with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Pay for seasonal workers will start at between $21 and $23 per hour and UPS Teamster part-timers will have priority to perform seasonal support work using their own vehicles, with a "locked-in" eight-hour guarantee, according to the union. Additionally, for the first time, seasonal work will be contained to just five weeks in November and December.

The company is filling both full- and part-time seasonal positions including seasonal delivery drivers, Commercial Driver's License drivers and package handlers across the country. Some early applicants will also be eligible for permanent positions and nearly 80% of positions do not require an interview, UPS said.

Package handlers and driver helpers will make $21 per hour and delivery and tractor-trailer drivers will make $23 per hour, a company spokesperson told CNBC. Last year, seasonal package handlers made between $15 and $21 per hour, while delivery drivers made at least $21 per hour.

“The best talent delivers the best service. That’s why we’re proud to offer industry-leading pay for UPS part-timers, full-timers and seasonal employees alike,” UPS Executive Vice President Nando Cesarone said.

Under job postings for seasonal package delivery drivers, the company says that workers may later be offered a permanent role with compensation as high as $145,000 per year. More than 30% of seasonal workers hired by UPS in early 2022 were later offered a permanent job, according to the company.
