Taco Bell Debuts Its First-Ever Gelato
The chain is partnering with PepsiCo to turn its Mtn Dew Baja Blast drink into a scoopable treat
Taco Bell announced this week that it will add gelato to its menu for the first time.
The California-based, fast-food taco chain is testing its Mtn Dew Baja Blast gelato at one of its Southern California locations for the next two weeks — or before it runs out, the company said. Customers can purchase a scoop for $2.99.
Taco Bell partnered with PepsiCo, which owns the Mtn Dew brand formerly known as Mountain Dew, to create the Mtn Dew Baja Blast drink in 2004, according to Food & Wine, and retailers sell the drink for limited times during the summer. The drink was also offered by Taco Bell as a slushie.
Now the companies are giving the tropical lime flavor a new form.
“Baja Blast is iconic to Taco Bell and has its own strong fandom, so introducing it in gelato form feels right,” said Liz Matthews, Taco Bell's global chief food innovation officer.
